Estimating Travel Time in a Single Lane System

Abstract

Prediction of accurate travel time is an important aspect in real time monitoring of the traffic behavior on a city network. The dynamic traffic flows entering the network affect the behavior of the system and the free flow movement of vehicles. To study the complex system dynamics arising due to varying input flows, we begin with a single lane system. The analysis of the behavior of the system is done to derive the travel time from the characteristics of the lane, the input flow and the constraints on the output flow.
