Shape Optimisation in Unsteady Flows

In aerodynamics, most of shape optimisation methods are gradient based methods. But cost functions are often very sophisticated and gradients are difficult to compute. We study herein numerical technics for calculating gradients of such cost functions for unsteady flows. One of the main problems is the non-differentiability of the mesh generation step. We propose here a way of solving this problem using automatic differentiation and mesh adaption.
