Optimal random access in communication networks

Thomas Bonald

Résumé

Medium Access Control (MAC) schemes are key to the stability and performance of communication networks. In this talk, we review some recent advances on this topic, accounting for the random nature of traffic and the complex interactions between competing data flows. In particular, we point out some shortcomings of the CSMA algorithm and propose a slight modi fication of the algorithm that optimizes the utilization of network resources.
