Smart Running Track: A Step Toward Real-life Social Networking using Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract

Sedentary and isolated life style brought on by overuse of computers and internet has negative effects on both psychological and physiological health of individuals. We propose to make a sensor network/mobile application, to facilitate social contact through recreational running supported by modern technological advances. The application would differ from already implemented solutions, through increased attention on social aspects of the problem. It would be deployed on sensor nodes and mobile phones, interconnected by a tracking station network. We hope to perform real fitness research using this application later on, while at the same time creating a genuinely useful product.
