Sensor networks in minimally invasive surgery
Abstract
The growing demand for more developed technological support in medicine, particularly in surgery motivates the current proposal. In this contribution we propose the use of wireless sensor networks capable of providing support for minimally invasive surgery. A real-time data acquisition and analysis is supposed for critical data parameters and control actions. Also, a larger amount of data is transmitted for archiving and post-processing. There are very different areas of research involved but we focus in this work only on the architecture and design of the whole sensor network while taking into account sensor design, reliability, human-compatibility and security issues.
