An immersive experience in public health with a full-scale, distributed and persistent simulation

Abstract

We present the design, implementation and evaluation of a game designed to create interactional immersion. Students interact with characters of the game through phone messages, mail messages, SMS and video. We intended to find evidences of relationships between game attributes and learning outcomes, in the form of examples. Game attributes are the game mission, the assessment events, character judgment, communication and probabilistic events, while learning outcomes are context appropriation, knowledge acquisition, attitudes, teamwork, communication skills and perceived realism.
