Computation of plate eigenmodes with the plane wave decomposition method

We develop a practical method for determining the modal frequencies and eigenmodes of a vibrating uniform thin plate, with arbitrary shape and boundary conditions, and uniform in-plane tension. The method is based on the decomposition of the modes as sum of propagative and exponential plane waves. This approach is validated for a circular plate and an odd-shaped plate, where results are shown to match classical results of plate theory, and are shown to require less resources than other numerical schemes.
