Towards phonetic tools for speech training

Anne Bonneau
Yves Laprie

Abstract

We present a platform for learning speech sciences which contains advanced tools allowing speech signal modifications, speech analysis, synthesis and speech enhancement. The paper presents some of the most interesting speech manipulations, such as the modification of prosody, the acoustic cue manipulations through the interface of the Klatt synthesizer, or the enhancement of speech segments. These modifications find interesting applications in the domains of learning of foreign languages, hearing aids and reeducation. They can be applied either automatically or manually, via their integration in a complex signal editor, WinSnoori. The transformations can be realised on the learner's voice, allowing him/her to better apprehend the target pronunciation.
