Elimination Theory, Methods, and Practice

Abstract

This article gives an informal account of the theory, algorithms, software tools, and applications of polynomial elimination. It covers most of the important ideas, methods, and up-to-date advances on classical resultants, sparse elimination, triangular/characteristic sets, Gröbner bases, matrix eigenproblems, and homotopy continuation. A selected bibliography is provided for the reader to access the rich literature on the subject.
