MedSpec, Spectral Database for Mediterranean Environments: a Tool to support Environmental Monitoring in the Mediterranean Basin
Résumé
MedSpec is a spectral database developed in the framework of EC-supported projects as a tool for remote sensing applications on land degradation in the Mediterranean Basin (radiometric and atmospheric corrections, endmember selection for spectral mixture analysis...). It contains visible to short-wave infrared spectra of rocks, soils and vegetation, pure or mixed, closely related to their physiographic context (detailed description of the observation site and measurement conditions, photographs, soil samples analysis) thus permitting a better interpretation and use of spectral data. Since the beginning of the development of this project, MedSpec has been growing continuously: it contains by now approximately 1500 spectra measured in various sites spread in seven countries of the Mediterranean basin. This database was mainly used internally. Main on-going work consists in spectra selection, planning to do a public release of the database.
