Mobility and multihoming management and strategies
Résumé
Future IPv6 mobile terminals will be equipped with several wireless network interfaces in order to take full advantage of heterogeneous technologies. However, the usage of multiple interfaces is not straight forward, and requires some support. Yet, mobility and multihoming support has been provided by different protocols. In this paper we study the management of both of them through a single protocol, the SHIM6 protocol. The key feature of this protocol is the establishment of a context which allows two peers to exchange all the IP addresses they have. We discuss and evaluate the effect of mobility on the SHIM6 protocol, and we discuss different strategies for rehoming decisions. The evaluation is provided through experimentation over an IPv6 testbed.
