3D Tracking System Using Endoscope for Narrow Space

Abstract

— This paper presents a real-time arthroscopic system that uses an endoscope and optical fiber to navigate a normal vector for the reconstructed surface of the knee joint. Navigation experiments using a synthetic knee joint were performed underwater. Compared to the freehand technique, navigational accuracy of the proposed system was significantly improved from at least 12.6° to 9.5°.
